As 2021 draws to a close, we are so thankful that we’re able to rest in God’s never-changing promises:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9a)
This past year, we have seen God’s power at work in Guatemala. Things that have been frustrating to us have been powerfully used for the kingdom:
Happy New Year from our family, the Impact Ministries staff, and from all the children at our Vida schools and the Vida Children’s Home!
If Impact Ministries is part of your planned year-end giving, there are still a few hours to have your gift matched through the Build a Brighter Future campaign. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has given so far! If it's still on your list, you can donate here right now.
Also, we’ll spend some more time looking back & looking ahead at our next VidaLive event scheduled for January 20th. Save the date, and bring your questions as you join us online.
Like so many of our students, Rosa had to figure out new ways to learn when traditional education was disrupted at her school this past year. Her two-roomed wood and tin house was set up for the basics of living, not online learning.
Thankfully, Rosa’s school had a computer lab, with computers she’d been learning to use since she was in Grade 4. So, when the classrooms were shut down, Rosa would go twice a week to that computer lab so that she could participate in her classes.
Thanks to access to a computer lab, Rosa was able to keep up with her schoolwork - and her parents are so proud of their daughter’s accomplishments.
Four of our six school campuses currently have a computer lab that students like Rosa can access. Two don’t yet - but we’re hoping you’ll help us change that!
This year, as part of our Build a Brighter Future matching campaign, you’re helping us build computer labs at Agua de Vida Chijulhá and Vida Nueva Schools. Computers are already on their way to Guatemala, and we’re excited for our students to be able to use them in the new computer labs!
Thank you for ensuring that our students have the educational spaces they need to learn and grow
As we celebrate Christmas this year, may we be more fully aware of Jesus' presence and be drawn into a deeper desire to know and experience Him more.
From our home to yours, we wish you a blessed Christmas season filled with love & light!
May your Christmas be Bright!
When we invite you to build a brighter future in Guatemala, we’re inviting you to build into the lives and futures of kids in Guatemala by providing opportunities for education and mentoring - but also through some very practical building projects!
This year, you’re helping us build classrooms, computer labs and chapels at some of our Vida schools. So how do classrooms, computer labs and chapels build a brighter future for children in Guatemala?
Classrooms: Classrooms directly impact how many children we can invite into the Vida School community. If our classrooms are full, we can’t accommodate new students. The classrooms you’re building this year are in our more remote schools where we reach some of the most impoverished people groups of Guatemala. Having access to education that’s closer to home makes such a difference for these children’s future!
Computer Labs: This past year or two, we’ve seen worldwide the importance of technology when traditional education is disrupted. Some students who didn’t have computers at home were able to access Vida School computer labs even when classrooms were shut down. You’re building computer labs at Agua de Vida Chijulhá & Vida Nueva to help bridge the digital divide for students who might not have the internet - or even electricity - at home.
Chapels: At Vida Schools, we’re not just graduating students, we’re growing godly leaders, and our mandate is to first care for our students’ souls. Soul care can, of course, be done from anywhere - but there’s something so special about having a chapel for school devotionals where our kids come together to lift their hands and their voices to God. And there’s nothing greater than being able to build into the faith of a child!
Your donation to Build a Brighter Future this Christmas provides so much more than “just” an education - you truly are building a brighter future for kids in Guatemala.
Axel struggles with his schoolwork – not because he isn’t smart or hard-working, but because poverty can make learning difficult. Imagine learning from home in a house made of earth and sheet metal that floods when it rains. Imagine sharing that space with many younger siblings – all of whom think the school supplies your teachers brought you look like great toys. Imagine trying to study on an empty stomach, worrying about whether you’ll have to hide the next time dad comes home. Is it any wonder that Axel sometimes neglects his studies?
Will you help us support children like Axel? This Christmas, you can double your impact while building a brighter future for children in Guatemala. Every dollar you give will be matched!
Axel’s life is tough. He can’t always attend to his school work, because, at 7, he’s often charged with taking care of younger siblings. His dad doesn’t have a permanent job, and spends too many afternoons with his buddies, drinking too much. When he returns home, Axel and his brothers and sisters have to be on their best behaviour – and sometimes they even have to find a place to hide to avoid their father’s anger.
Without a regular income, the family struggles. Sometimes, when they run out of food, Mom spends her last coins on some sweets to abate the growling in her children’s tummies. When Axel receives a food package from the school, the whole family feels blessed to be able to eat well for a few days.
School has become one of the greatest blessings of Axel’s life. For Axel, being part of the Vida School community means so much more than just an education. His school is truly a place of refuge, and Axel is learning more about the God who holds his future.
When Axel started attending school, he and his family didn’t know God. Now Axel takes joy in worshipping and singing to the Lord. His mom has started taking Axel and his siblings to church, and they no longer feel completely on their own through their struggles. They are learning to trust God with their future.
Axel’s teachers continue to pray for Axel, and to visit and support the family. They, too, are trusting God for a brighter future for Axel and his family.
Will you be part of Axel’s brighter future? Because children like Axel need us to be there for them when life is hard. Your gifts will be used for school construction – including a new classroom, computer lab and chapel in Axel’s school – as well as for educational programs. And your gifts will be matched dollar for dollar (up to $74,715!) until the end of the year. Together, we can build a brighter future for them!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all children were able to receive an education, feel safe and loved, and know God’s got their future? Help us build a brighter future for kids in Guatemala this holiday season!
(On Tuesday, December 7th, we’ll continue talking about poverty and building a brighter future in Guatemala with Axel’s principal at our December VidaLive event.)
We did it! For #GivingTuesday, together we raised enough to fill 43,565 plates. Or provide 605 food baskets. That’s more than double our goal! THANK YOU for helping us make sure our Vida students and their families have enough to eat!
Thank you for being such a blessing to children in Guatemala!
